“Join Sri Lankan Ambassador Himalee Arunatilaka at the AIFOD Geneva Winter Summit 2023”
The AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) is thrilled to announce the participation of H.E. Ms. Himalee Subhashini Arunatilaka, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, at the upcoming AIFOD Geneva Winter Summit. With her remarkable 25+ years of diplomatic expertise, Ambassador Arunatilaka is set to bring invaluable insights to the summit.
Since assuming her role as Ambassador and Permanent Representative in December 2022, she has built upon her previous experience as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Nepal, a position she held from October 2019 to December 2022. Ambassador Arunatilaka’s rich career includes significant roles such as Deputy High Commissioner in Canberra (August 2015 – December 2018) and Minister and Head of Chancery at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris (2006-2009). Additionally, she served as the First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva (2000-2003).
Within the Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she has held pivotal leadership roles, notably as the Director-General of Africa Affairs and the International Security & Counter-Terrorism Division in 2019, and as the Acting Director General of Political Affairs/Europe, CIS, and Americas Division from 2010 to 2014. During her notable tenure, she played an instrumental role in facilitating the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Sri Lanka in 2013.
Further highlighting her extensive diplomatic credentials, Ambassador Arunatilaka was appointed as the Director of Foreign Affairs at the Presidential Secretariat in January 2015, where she collaborated closely with the Senior Advisor to the President on Foreign Affairs until August 2015. Her profound expertise in international relations, security matters, and multilateral diplomacy equips her well to engage in pivotal discussions surrounding artificial intelligence and its impact on global development.
