Johanna Hill, WTO’s Deputy Director-General, to Deliver Keynote at AIFOD’s Winter Summit in Geneva
The AI for Developing Countries Forum (AIFOD) is excited to announce that Johanna Hill, the Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), will be a featured speaker at the upcoming AIFOD Geneva Winter Summit. With over 25 years of extensive experience in international trade and development, Hill is set to share her invaluable insights on fostering economic growth through innovative trade policies and digital advancements.
In her current position at the WTO, which she took on in November 2023, Hill is at the forefront of pivotal initiatives related to digital trade, economic research and statistics, as well as services and investment negotiations. Her rich experience in providing counsel to governments and businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries, uniquely equips her to discuss the convergence of artificial intelligence, global trade, and economic progress.
Before her tenure at the WTO, Hill excelled as Managing Partner at CA Trade Consulting Group’s San Salvador office, where she dedicated her efforts to empowering SMEs in the international arena. Her illustrious career also includes a significant role as the Vice Minister of Economy in El Salvador, where she led the implementation of trade policies and was instrumental in negotiating bilateral free trade agreements. Hill has also made substantial contributions as the Executive Director of El Salvador’s Chamber of Telecommunications and as a board member of Banco Azul.
Hill’s involvement in the summit is expected to shed light on how artificial intelligence can amplify international trade opportunities for developing nations while tackling challenges within the global digital economy. Her trade policy expertise and commitment to economic development resonate deeply with AIFOD’s mission to ensure that the advantages of AI extend to developing countries, thus promoting sustainable economic growth.
