While ELT marks an improvement over ETL, both types of data movement solutions address only a fraction of the data warehousing lifecycle. Therefore, organizations often rely on multiple disparate tools to manage the various aspects associated with designing, developing, deploying, documenting, and maintaining their data warehouses and infrastructures. In contrast, data infrastructure automation encompasses the entire data warehousing lifecycle, covering everything from planning and design to operations and documentation.

Many of these businesses begin with custom solutions, which often result in a lack of accessible knowledge limited to a single individual, complicating data democratization among colleagues, particularly non-technical staff.
