Google Unveils Vertex AI: The Next Generation Fully Managed Cloud Machine Learning Platform
Google Introduces Vertex AI for Streamlined Machine Learning
Google Cloud has unveiled Vertex AI, a fully managed cloud platform designed to simplify the deployment and maintenance of machine learning models. This announcement was made during the recent virtual I/O developer conference, highlighting the platform’s significance for developers beyond just mobile and web solutions.
According to Google, Vertex allows models to be trained with up to 80% fewer lines of code compared to other platforms. Bradley Shimmin, Chief Analyst for AI Platforms at Omdia, noted that data science practitioners need tools that can efficiently manage the machine learning lifecycle without getting bogged down in complexities. A supportive infrastructure is essential to unify the user experience and place data at the core of operations while facilitating the integration of various technologies.
Vertex integrates Google Cloud’s AI solutions into one cohesive environment, allowing models to transition seamlessly from experimentation to production. Andrew Moore, VP and GM of Cloud AI and Industry Solutions at Google Cloud, emphasized that the aim was to help data scientists and engineers focus on innovative work rather than administrative tasks associated with orchestration. This platform is expected to enable significant AI deployment for a new era of data scientists and engineers.
The platform provides access to Google’s MLOps toolkit, utilized internally for workloads involving computer vision, conversation, and language processing. Key MLOps features within Vertex include Vizier for accelerating experimentation, a Feature Store to facilitate sharing and reusing ML features, and selection tools to enhance the speed at which models go into production.
Several notable companies have had early access to Vertex. For instance, ModiFace, a subsidiary of L’Oréal, leverages the platform to enhance the beauty shopping experience through virtual try-ons. Jeff Houghton, COO at ModiFace, explained that Vertex AI has allowed them to create technology that closely mimics real-life product trials.
Another organization reaping the benefits of Vertex is Essence, a media agency under the global advertising conglomerate WPP. With the capabilities of Vertex AI, their developers and data analysts can regularly update models to stay aligned with evolving human behaviors and content channels.
As more companies start adopting Vertex AI, we anticipate a surge of success stories showcasing its potential in transforming business operations. For those interested in how to begin utilizing Vertex AI, more information can be found here.
