Finland’s Hyperautomation Lead: Why the UK is Falling Behind in Awareness
Enterprise Research: Finland Leads in Hyperautomation Awareness, UK Lags Behind
Recent research by SAS, an analytics firm, indicates that Finland is at the forefront of hyperautomation awareness, while several prominent nations are not keeping pace. Hyperautomation integrates artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation, and various business processes on cloud platforms, thereby enhancing organizational decision-making speed.
“Organizations require increased IT and business process automation as they strive to expedite their digital transformation efforts in a post-COVID-19, digital-first environment,” stated Fabrizio Biscotti, Research Vice President at Gartner. Companies that embrace hyperautomation during their digital transformation endeavors stand to gain a significant competitive advantage.
David Shannon, Head of Hyperautomation at SAS UK & Ireland, noted, “Our research reveals that firms are already leveraging hyperautomation for improved efficiency, customer service, and innovation.” However, the exploration of hyperautomation differs significantly across countries.
SAS analyzed online search data across 24 nations to measure awareness levels regarding hyperautomation and to identify the regions where demand is escalating. The findings ranked the top ten countries in terms of hyperautomation awareness as follows:
- Finland: 2,120 searches (4.57% awareness)
- Sweden: 2,860 searches (2.98% awareness)
- Switzerland: 2,170 searches (2.74% awareness)
- Ireland: 1,190 searches (2.49% awareness)
- Australia: 4,160 searches (2.01% awareness)
- Singapore: 3,730 searches (1.87% awareness)
- Austria: 1,710 searches (1.87% awareness)
- Netherlands: 5,580 searches (1.78% awareness)
- Belgium: 1,760 searches (1.6% awareness)
- Germany: 10,930 searches (1.46% awareness)
The UK ranked 12th, with only 1.25 search queries per 10,000 people showing interest in hyperautomation, although it remained ahead of larger countries such as the US, France, Spain, Italy, and Japan, which occupied the bottom ten positions in SAS’s analysis.
Interestingly, while Spain and Italy are among the nations with lower awareness, their search growth rates suggest they might soon ascend to the top rankings. The countries with the most significant growth in search volume from 2020 to 2021 include:
- Turkey: 63.2% growth
- Sweden: 51.3% growth
- Spain: 48.7% growth
- Italy: 47.5% growth
- Poland: 45.9% growth
- Germany: 45.1% growth
- Netherlands: 43.1% growth
- South Africa: 39.4% growth
- India: 36.5% growth
- Austria: 34.6% growth
Despite a 20.4% increase in the UK’s awareness, the country placed 18th in the overall rankings, emphasizing the need for increased recognition and understanding of hyperautomation to position itself as a leader in this domain.
“While search data may not capture the entire picture, it serves as an effective gauge of national sentiment regarding technology trends. The rapid escalation of awareness in certain countries over the past three years highlights where demand is likely to surge,” said Shannon. “Automation has empowered businesses across the globe to transform their operations, and hyperautomation represents the next logical step in this evolution. Now is the opportune moment to incorporate advanced technological solutions into digital strategies.”
