Unveiling the Evaluation Guidelines for the Innovative AI Art Contest: Envisioning Tomorrow’s Canvas

Introducing the Canvas of the Future, an exciting AI-powered art competition brought to you by ITU’s AI for Good platform in partnership with Shutterstock. This extraordinary initiative seeks to push the boundaries of creativity and technology while igniting global discussions on how AI can play a pivotal role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). We invite artists, AI aficionados, and anyone inspired by the vast potential where art meets AI to contribute their visions for a sustainable tomorrow.

As you embark on your creative journey, please keep the contest judging criteria in mind. Our distinguished panel, composed of AI and art experts, will evaluate the submitted pieces based on the following criteria:

  • Mastery of technique – Your artwork should exemplify a command of AI technologies in artistic expression, showcasing exceptional technical skill and expertise in the chosen medium.
  • Creativity and originality – We encourage artworks that reveal a distinctive and imaginative interpretation of sustainability and the UN SDGs from your unique perspective.
  • Effective use of AI technology – Let your creativity shine by incorporating innovative AI techniques, such as generative algorithms, neural networks, or machine learning in your work.
  • Connection to UN SDGs – Your piece should clearly illustrate how AI can contribute to advancing one or more of the UN SDGs, underscoring the intersection of technology and global sustainability challenges.
  • Visual impact and aesthetic appeal – The artwork should be striking and inviting, capturing viewers’ attention and encouraging them to delve deeper into the topic.
  • Clarity of message – Communicate your vision of a sustainable future effectively, offering a compelling narrative that reflects a solid understanding of the UN SDGs.
  • Potential to inspire and provoke thought – Aim to evoke wonder and curiosity in your audience, encouraging them to reflect on the role of AI and technology in shaping a sustainable future.
  • Boundary transcending, international resonance – Your work should resonate with a global audience, transcending cultural barriers and reflecting the interconnected nature of sustainability challenges worldwide.
  • Power to impact – The artwork should inspire meaningful conversations, raise awareness, and spur action regarding sustainability and the UN SDGs, both during the AI for Good Global Summit and beyond.

Submit your uniquely diverse visions of a brighter future by 29 February 2024, and anticipate the winner announcement on 1 April 2024. The winning artist will have the honor of showcasing their creative talent at the AI for Good Global Summit 2024, taking place on 30-31 May in Geneva.
