Transforming Industries: Chuck Ros of SoftServe on Responsible AI Solutions
Chuck Ros, SoftServe: Delivering Transformative AI Solutions Responsibly
As society increasingly embraces the transformative capabilities of artificial intelligence, SoftServe is at the forefront of crafting advanced AI solutions while emphasizing responsible implementation. In anticipation of the AI & Big Data Expo North America, where the company will showcase its expertise, Chuck Ros, Industry Success Director at SoftServe, shared insights into the firm’s AI initiatives, challenges encountered, and future strategies for harnessing this powerful technology.
Ros highlighted a recent AI project that exemplifies SoftServe’s innovative outlook. The company devised a unique solution for a software provider in the field service management arena. The goal was to create an intuitive, language model-enabled interface that would enable field technicians to smoothly access service histories, equipment documentation, and maintenance schedules, ultimately improving productivity and operational efficiency.
“Our AI engineers developed a prompt evaluation pipeline that meticulously considers cost, processing time, semantic relevance, and the likelihood of hallucinations,” Ros noted. This architecture led to significant operational efficiencies for clients, enhanced productivity for field users, a competitive edge for the software company, and—most importantly—a catalyst for further innovation.
Despite the undeniable promise of AI, Ros pointed out common pitfalls organizations encounter when deploying AI solutions. He emphasized the necessity of having a solid data strategy, establishing reliable data pipelines, and rigorously testing models. He cautioned against hastily deploying generative AI solutions without a proper evaluation of feasibility and business viability, stating, “We need to pay at least as much attention to whether it should be built as we do to whether it can be built.”
Addressing the vital concern of ethical AI development, Ros highlighted the need for human oversight throughout the entire process. “Managing dynamic data quality, identifying bias and inaccuracies, ensuring high standards of data privacy, and the ethical use of AI systems all require human oversight,” he remarked. SoftServe’s AI development approach includes structured evaluations of data and algorithms for compatibility, assessing potential risks, and implementing governance measures to ensure accountability and traceability.
Looking ahead, Ros anticipates AI playing an increasingly central role in SoftServe’s business strategy, with continuous enhancements to AI-assisted software development lifecycles and new tools and processes that further boost productivity. Findings suggest that Generative AI can enhance programming productivity by as much as 40 percent.
“I envision more models assisting us daily, aiding in writing emails, documentation, and handling the simple, time-consuming tasks we still manage,” Ros stated. “In five years, I see ongoing refinements in AI within SDLCs and the consistent introduction of new tools and processes that could elevate that productivity increase to 50 percent and 60 percent.”
When discussing how SoftServe leverages AI for social good, Ros explained that the company is delivering solutions ranging from machine learning models that help students discover their passions to facilitating personalized learning experiences and easing teachers’ workloads.
“I love this question because one of SoftServe’s core strategic tenets is to empower our social purpose and contribute to making the world a better place. It’s an ambitious goal, but it resonates deeply with our employees and clients,” Ros articulated. “That’s why we established the Open Eyes Foundation, which has raised over $15 million with the support of the public, our clients, our partners, and of course our employees.”
SoftServe is set to make a significant impact at the AI & Big Data Expo North America with a keynote presentation titled “Revolutionizing Learning: Unleashing the Power of Generative AI in Education and Beyond.” This session will delve into how generative AI and large language models can transform the educational landscape.
According to Ros, the discussion will examine the methods through which generative AI processes data, highlighting training techniques such as fine-tuning and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). The presentation will also identify promising applications that combine high value with low risk, aimed at reshaping education.
Ros emphasized the journey from a nascent idea to a fully functional AI solution is fraught with challenges, including ethical dilemmas and risks associated with AI deployment. By referencing a success story from Mesquite ISD, where generative AI has helped students discover their interests and skills, the presentation will showcase the tangible advantages and transformative power of generative AI in personalized learning.
Additionally, SoftServe will engage in panel discussions on critical topics including “Getting to Production-Ready – Challenges and Best Practices for Deploying AI,” as well as “Navigating the Data & AI Landscape – Ensuring Safety, Security, and Responsibility in Big Data and AI Systems.” These sessions will offer valuable insights from SoftServe’s experts on overcoming obstacles to deployment, ensuring data quality and user acceptance, and reducing risks related to AI implementation.
As a prominent sponsor of the event, SoftServe is dedicated to fostering discussions about the responsible and ethical advancement of AI technologies. The company aims to share its expertise and vision for using AI to fuel innovation, boost productivity, and tackle global challenges. “We are eager to exchange ideas on a variety of business applications in AI and big data, as the concept of a rising tide lifting all boats resonates deeply within the AI and GenAI community,” Ros concludes.
