Amdocs, NVIDIA, and Microsoft Azure Collaborate on Custom LLMs for Telecoms

Amdocs has formed a partnership with NVIDIA and Microsoft Azure to develop customized Large Language Models (LLMs) specifically for the global telecoms sector, which is currently valued at $1.7 trillion. This collaboration utilizes NVIDIA’s AI foundry service in Microsoft Azure to address the growing needs for data processing and analysis in telecoms.

The telecom industry handles hundreds of petabytes of data on a daily basis. As global data transactions are projected to exceed 180 zettabytes by 2025, telecom companies are increasingly adopting generative AI to improve their operational efficiency and productivity. NVIDIA’s AI foundry service offers a comprehensive toolkit, including NVIDIA AI Foundation Models, the NeMo framework, and DGX Cloud AI supercomputing resources, to create and refine bespoke AI models.

Amdocs plans to leverage this service to build enterprise-scale LLMs designed for the telecom and media sectors, enabling various generative AI applications across different business functions. This initiative builds on the already established partnership between Amdocs and Microsoft, ensuring that their applications are implemented within secure and trusted infrastructures, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

As enterprises increasingly seek custom models for specific industry-related tasks, Amdocs, which supports over 350 of the world’s top telecom and media companies in 90 countries, is poised to explore new generative AI use cases. Initial focuses of this collaboration will include enhancing customer care and improving network operations.

In the realm of customer care, the partnership aims to expedite the resolution of user inquiries by utilizing comprehensive data access across the organization. For network operations, they are investigating real-time solutions to tackle configuration, coverage, or performance challenges. This strategic move by Amdocs underlines its commitment to advancing the telecoms sector through the innovative capabilities of custom generative AI models.
